Baked Chocolate Donuts

Baked Chocolate Donuts

Oh? You don’t want to fill out thank you cards for everyone that gave you a birthday present? Well, what if I was to make chocolate donuts?

Yes, my secret is out. Chocolate is a wondrous bribery tool. True Story.

Baked donuts make so much sense to me. A cake batter shaped into a donut. Brilliant.

We start with flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt whisked together to aerate and fluff.

A second bowl contains the sugar, of the dark brown variety.

Just look at that egg.

Did I mention it’s snowing? Not even two weeks into November and it is snowing.

Back to the donuts…

After your donut pan is greased, spoon the batter in until it’s about 2/3 full.

While your donuts are baking, you can decide what kind of icing you want. I used Joy the Baker’s recipe for chocolate icing.

Sprinkles are my new favorite accessory.

Baked Chocolate Donuts

recipe adapted from shutterbean

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 325F.

Whisk flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt together. In a separate bowl, combine milk, sugar, egg, melted butter and vanilla extract. Pour flour mixture into milk mixture and mix until incorporated.

Grease donut pan and fill 2/3 full. Bake for 13 minutes.

Let cool for a minute in pan and then turn out onto a wire rack.

Dip into your choice of icing and sprinkle with rainbow jimmies :)

Makes 9 donuts.
